“Why are you still at work? Don’t you have the romantic dinner with Min tonight?”

Ebony poked her beak around the door of his office, her head cocked and her eyes bright and beady.

“I’m giving her space to get ready.”

Ebony strolled into the office. “How’s rooming together going?”

“We’re making it work,” Ethan said stiffly, avoiding her curious gaze.

Truth was, it was awkward, but with his dressing room being almost as big as a bedroom, he could at least go in and close the door. Knowing she was so close had kept him these past few nights, nursing not one but two eager cocks, and as for navigating the bathroom… well, so far, they’d only nearly bumped into each other once.

If he was honest, he was so damn nervous about tonight that sitting here looking at the latest plans for the airport was the only thing calming him down. That was why he was doing all this, he reminded himself. It had nothing to do with Min’s full, soft mouth and her big dark eyes behind those glasses.

Meanwhile, Ebony showed no signs of leaving. She pulled up a chair by his desk and sat down.

“Hmm, so is the pull-out comfy?”

“Lumpy as shit.”

“But at least if the authorities raid in the middle of the night, you can turn it back into a sofa and just hop into bed together and cuddle up. That’s so adorable.” Ebony was smirking; he knew she was enjoying this. At his expense. Could she tell his feelings for Min were heading off the professional cliff so fast he was at risk of falling flat on his scaly face?

He merely grunted and turned back to his computer screen.

Ebony picked up his glass dragon egg paperweight and started playing with it.

“Isn’t Pete expecting you home?” he grumbled finally, envious suddenly of her real loved-up relationship.

“He’s cooking tonight, so I don’t have to rush. We take it in turns. Guess we’ll just snuggle up on the sofa and watch a movie after. We’re so dull and domesticated these days.”

The thought of doing that with Min floated into his head, and he felt even more envious. He imagined them cuddling up in his big movie room together. Sharing a huge bowl of popcorn maybe, or take-away noodles.

Ebony leaned forward, her chin on her wings. “So, Mr Dragon, are you quite sure this whole fake dating thing is fake?”

His head jerked up. “Of course it is.”

Ebony shrugged. “Just, you know, there’s a vibe between you two. A bit of smoldering chemistry. I’ve seen the way you look at her. Caught her looking at you that way too.”

“Really?” A warmth crept up his neck.

“Yep. I think she may have a bit of a crush. And you sure as hell do.”

“Keep your bird brain in check, will you?”

But still the damn raven pushed. “She’s cute, right, in a kind of serious way, don’t you reckon?”

“Mmmm, maybe.” The plans danced in front of Ethan’s eyes as an image of kissing Min came into his head.

His stomach churned.
